Agrifence Gate Spring – Single, 25cm to 5m

The gate spring is the elastic middle of an electric fence gateway. Made from galvanised steel and extending from 25cm at rest to 5m under tension, it spans the opening between two anchors and takes up its own slack, so the gateway can be unhooked and dropped without a length of live line lying in the grass.

Agrifence's own point about it is the one that matters: a sprung gateway can be left open without the risk of shorting to the ground. A plain length of tape or rope, released, sags into wet grass and drains the fence. A spring pulls itself back to a quarter of a metre and stays clear.

Performance & Benefits
  • Galvanised steel throughout, so it lives outdoors in a wet gateway.
  • Extends from 25cm to 5m, covering openings up to five metres wide.
  • Retracts under its own tension when unhooked, keeping the line off the ground.
  • Conducts along its length, so the gateway stays live when closed.
  • Works with standard gate handles and gate anchors rather than needing a proprietary kit.
<>
Suitable For
  • Field and paddock gateways up to 5m wide.
  • Openings that are used daily and left open for long spells.
  • Tape, rope and polywire systems alike.
  • Wet or poached gateways where a slack line would short out.
  • Not a complete gateway on its own — it needs an insulated gate handle and a gate anchor at each end, such as the Agrifence Gate Anchor Insulator.
<>
How to Use
  • Fit a gate anchor to the post at each side of the opening.
  • Hook one end of the spring to the fixed anchor and connect it into the live line.
  • Fit an insulated gate handle to the free end and hook it to the opposite anchor.
  • Do not stretch the spring past 5m — set the anchors closer than its full extension so it works within its range.
  • To open, take the insulated handle and unhook it, then let the spring draw back and hang it on the post clear of the ground.

Care & Caution
  • A steel spring held at five metres carries real stored energy. Take hold of the insulated handle when releasing it and let it draw back under control — never let a tensioned spring go free.
  • Handle the gateway by the insulated grip only. The spring itself is live when the fence is on.
  • Replace the spring once it no longer returns to roughly its resting length; a spring that has taken a set will trail on the ground and short the fence.
