The S16 is a self-contained solar energiser: panel, 6-volt rechargeable battery and pulse unit in one housing, mounted on the earth rod that comes in the box. It stores 0.16 joules and delivers 0.12 joules to the line, which Agrifence rate at 1,500 metres of fence — roughly 2.5 acres — where the vegetation under the wire is kept low.

This is the option for a paddock with no mains supply and no interest in carrying batteries out to it. There is no running cost and nothing to swap over; the panel charges the internal battery through daylight and the unit runs overnight on what it has stored. In return you accept a modest output, and a duty to keep the grass off the bottom line.

How to Use

• Drive the supplied earth rod into moist ground, away from any building or domestic earth.
• Mount the unit on the rod with the solar panel facing south and clear of tree shade, buildings and hedges.
• Connect the earth lead to the rod and the live lead to the fence line.
• Switch on and confirm the pulse light is flashing.
• Check fence voltage with a tester weekly, and keep vegetation clear of the live line.
• In midwinter, check the battery charge indicator more often — short days give the panel less to work with.

Care & Caution

• Site the energiser where children and stock cannot reach it, and never inside a stable or field shelter animals use.
• Never connect an energiser to barbed wire. It is dangerous to animals and is not a legal fence in the UK.
• The internal battery is a sealed rechargeable cell — do not open, pierce or burn it, and dispose of it at a battery recycling point at end of life.
• Leaving the unit in the dark for weeks flattens the battery beyond recovery. Store it somewhere light, or on charge, over a long winter break.
• Where the fence borders a public footpath, bridleway or road, warning signs are a legal requirement in the UK.
