All For Paws Chill Out Ice Bandana Large - Cooling Dog Bandana for Summer Heat Relief
All For Paws Chill Out Ice Bandana – Large (44–52cm)
Large runs from 44 to 52cm at the neck, which puts it on labradors, boxers, larger collies, GSDs at the smaller end and most lurchers. It deliberately overlaps the Medium by two centimetres at the bottom of its range, so a 44 to 46cm dog can be fitted either way — and in practice the Large is the one to take, because more fabric against the neck means more cooling surface.
The cooling itself comes from an SAP cotton layer behind a polyester face. Soaked, that layer holds water in suspension rather than releasing it in a rush, which is why All For Paws talk about hours of cooling rather than minutes. On a big dog the honest expectation is a couple of hours in real heat before it wants re-wetting.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Fits a 44–52cm neck girth.
- Polyester face over an SAP cotton cooling layer.
- Larger area of damp fabric than the Medium, over a bigger dog's neck vessels.
- All For Paws describe the fabric as safe and non-irritating.
- Twisting it and chilling for ten minutes before fitting lengthens the effect.
- Blue water ripple print, as across the range.
Suitable For
- Larger breeds measuring 44–52cm round the neck.
- Dogs waiting at shows, ringside or in a horsebox on a hot day.
- Thick or double-coated breeds through a heatwave.
- Dogs in the 44–46cm overlap with the Medium, who are better served by this size.
- Above 52cm you are into X-Large territory (53–62cm) — a bandana forced onto too big a neck will not sit flat and will not cool.
How to Use
- Soak the bandana in cold water until the fabric has taken up all it will hold.
- Wring out the surplus, twist it, and put it in the fridge for about ten minutes — All For Paws say this step noticeably improves the cooling.
- Fit it round the neck so it sits flat against the skin; a bandana held off the coat does very little.
- Re-soak whenever it starts to feel dry, which on a hot still day is sooner than you expect.
- Rinse in clean water and dry it fully before storing. All For Paws publish no machine-washing instructions for it.
Specification
- Size L. Neck girth 44–52cm.
- Material: polyester with an SAP cotton cooling layer.
- Blue water ripple print.
- Made in four sizes: S 30–36cm, M 38–46cm, L 44–52cm and XL 53–62cm.
- All For Paws publish no fastening specification for the bandana; a Velcro strap is described on some retail listings, but as it is not their own figure it is not stated as fact here.
Care & Caution
- The cooling layer is a super-absorbent polymer. If a dog chews through the outer fabric the gel it finds is not something you want swallowed, so retire the bandana at the first sign of a tear.
- Take it off for crate time, car travel in a harness and unsupervised turnout in the garden — anything worn round the neck can catch.
- A cooling bandana is an aid, not a treatment. A dog showing heatstroke needs shade, cool water and a vet, not a damp scarf.
