Anco Easy Antlers Extra Large Natural Dog Chew
Anco Easy Antlers – Extra Large
Easy Antlers are ordinary deer antlers cut in half down their length, so the softer marrow core is exposed from the first chew rather than having to be worked at through the hard outer wall. Anco collect the antlers after they are naturally shed, then clean, cut and sand them so the edges are smooth. The Extra Large is the biggest of the four, at approximately 121-170g of solid antler.
Because the marrow is already open, a dog gets something back straight away, which makes a halved antler far more interesting to a dog that has sniffed at a whole one and walked off. It is still antler underneath — dense, low in odour, and it does not go sticky or greasy in the house — so it lasts a long time without being the immovable object a whole antler can be.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Split lengthways so the marrow is accessible immediately, which holds the interest of dogs that ignore a whole antler.
- Extra Large piece, approximately 121-170g, sized for larger breeds.
- 100% naturally shed deer antler — no antlers are taken from a living animal.
- Cleaned, cut and sanded by Anco so there are no sharp cut edges.
- Very low in fat at 0.10%, and high in protein at 37%.
- Low odour and non-greasy, so it can be left down indoors without marking carpets or furniture.
Suitable For
- Large and giant breeds that get through softer chews quickly.
- Dogs that need a long, calm occupation rather than a quick treat.
- Dogs on a fat-restricted diet, given the 0.10% fat figure.
- Dogs that have rejected a whole antler as too hard to make progress on.
- Not for puppies under four months, elderly dogs or any dog with existing dental problems — Anco advise against antlers for all three. A softer chew such as the Anco Camel Collagen Braid suits those dogs better.
Feeding
- A complementary pet food for dogs. Feed as a treat or reward only, as part of a nutritionally balanced diet.
- Supplied as one piece. Anco state it is suitable from eight weeks, but also advise against antlers below four months of age.
- Offer it on a floor you do not mind being scraped, and always with fresh drinking water available.
- Take it away once it has worn down small enough to be swallowed whole.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: 100% deer antler.
- Analytical constituents, as published by Anco: protein 37%, ash 55%, fibre 2%, fat 0.10%.
- Approximate weight 121-170g. Antler is a natural product, so size, shape and colour vary piece to piece.
- Anco product code 1010717, barcode 5060586230111.
- Earlier store copy described antlers as fat free; Anco's own figure is 0.10% fat, which is what is given above.
Care & Caution
- Anco warn that antlers are very hard and may cause tooth fractures or choking. Supervise every chewing session.
- Not recommended for puppies under four months, for elderly dogs, or for dogs with any dental issue.
- Remove and discard the piece once it is small enough to be swallowed or lodged at the back of the throat.
- If your dog is a crushing rather than a gnawing chewer, an antler is the wrong chew for it.
