Anco Naturals Red Deer Leg
The Red Deer Leg is a whole lower leg — bone, sinew and hide, air-dried and sold singly. It is the hardest chew Anco make in their venison line, and it is bought for exactly that reason: a dog that demolishes a braid in ten minutes will still be working at a deer leg long afterwards.
Anco declare the composition as 100% deer, with protein at 45.1%, fat at 20.6% and ash at 11.9% — the ash figure reflecting how much of the chew is bone. Deer is also a true novel protein, which makes the leg unusually useful for a large, determined chewer on an exclusion diet.
<>Performance & Benefits
- A whole air-dried red deer leg, declared by Anco as 100% deer.
- Anco's analysis: protein 45.1%, fat 20.6%, ash 11.9%.
- Naturally rich in calcium, from the bone that makes up much of the chew.
- The hardest and longest-lasting item in Anco's venison range.
- Hypoallergenic single protein, grain and gluten free.
- No added colourings, salt or sugar, and no GMO ingredients, dairy or soya.
Suitable For
- Large breeds and power chewers that go through softer chews in minutes.
- Dogs on an exclusion diet that still need a substantial chew.
- Dogs with sound teeth and a methodical chewing style.
- Puppies from twelve weeks of age; Anco do not recommend it below four months.
- Anco state it is not suitable for dogs with dental problems or for elderly dogs — Anco Oceans Salmon Skin Rolls give way instead of resisting.
Feeding
- Feed as a treat or reward only, as part of a nutritionally balanced diet.
- Offer one leg at a time, and take it up between sessions rather than leaving it down.
- Anco recommend it from twelve weeks, and not for puppies under four months.
- Keep fresh drinking water available while your dog chews.
- Allow for it in the day's food; a leg is a substantial addition.
