Ancol Örva Puffer Fish Lick Mat

Örva is Ancol's enrichment range, and the lick mats are the simplest thing in it. Spread treat paste, wet food or yoghurt across the textured surface and an animal has to work at it with its tongue instead of clearing a spoonful in two seconds. Suction cups moulded into the underside fix the mat to a smooth floor, a tiled wall or the side of a bath, so it does not get carried off halfway through.

Ancol give the mat as 21cm across, and make it in three shapes — puffer fish, shark and a slightly longer 23cm lobster. It suits dogs and cats, washes by hand or on a low dishwasher cycle, and earns its keep during grooming, nail trims, fireworks and post-operative rest as much as at mealtimes.

Performance & Benefits
  • Textured surface holds paste, wet food, yoghurt or soaked kibble in the grooves.
  • Suction cups on the back fix the mat to tiles, smooth floors or a bath side.
  • Slows treat time right down, which helps fast eaters and settles anxious animals.
  • Enrichment with no noise, no batteries and no moving parts.
  • Works for both dogs and cats.
  • Hand wash, or dishwasher on a low-temperature cycle.
<>
Suitable For
  • Dogs and cats that eat far too quickly.
  • Distraction during grooming, nail trims, bath time and fireworks.
  • Crate settling, box rest and recovery after an operation.
  • Wet food, paste and yoghurt rather than dry kibble.
  • Not for a dog that chews and swallows whatever it is given — something built to be chewed, such as the Ancol Tough Treat Dispenser, is the safer choice there.
<>
How to Use
  • Press the suction cups onto a clean, smooth, dry surface and check the mat is properly fixed before you let your pet at it.
  • Spread a thin layer of paste or wet food across the textured surface — a spoonful goes a long way.
  • Stay with your pet for the session and take the mat away once it is finished.
  • Hand wash in warm soapy water after every use, or run it through the dishwasher on a low-temperature cycle.
  • Dry fully before using it again.
<>
Specification
  • 21cm across, with integral suction cups on the underside.
  • Dishwasher safe on a low-temperature cycle.
  • Made in three designs: puffer fish, shark and lobster (the lobster is 23cm).
  • Ancol publish no material specification for the mat, so none is stated here.
  • The barcode on this listing corresponds to Ancol code 970200, which Ancol publish as the lobster shape of the same mat; their puffer fish is 970100. The mats differ only in outline and a couple of centimetres, so check the photographs for the shape you want.

Care & Caution
  • Always stay with your pet while the mat is in use.
  • Check it before every use and throw it away if it is chewed, split or losing pieces — this is a lick mat, not a chew toy.
  • Make sure the suction cups are stuck down properly; a loose mat gets picked up and carried off.
  • Not for unsupervised use in a crate, kennel or garden.
