Ancol Stormguard Softshell Dog Coat – Bordeaux, Large (50cm back)

The Large softshell fits a 50cm back length, measured from the base of the collar to the base of the tail — a springer, a collie, a mid-sized crossbreed. It is the unlined member of Ancol's Stormguard family: a waterproof shell for warm rainy days, where the aim is a dry dog rather than a warm one.

Fit is what makes a coat this length work. A chest protector runs forward under the throat and brisket to catch the mud a cape would miss, elasticated leg straps stop the tail end lifting when the dog moves, and reflective edging tape follows the seams. A harness slot lets the lead reach a harness worn beneath.

How to Use

• Measure the back length from the base of the collar to the base of the tail with the dog standing square, and order to that figure rather than to breed.
• Fasten the neck first, then the belly, then bring the elasticated straps around the hind legs.
• Leave two fingers of slack at the neck and check the leg straps sit clear of the groin.
• Run the lead through the harness slot to a harness underneath, not to the coat.
• Machine wash at 30°C and air dry naturally.

Care & Caution

• Machine wash at 30°C and air dry. Do not tumble dry or dry near direct heat — it degrades the waterproof coating.
• The harness slot gives lead access to a harness underneath. Never clip a lead to the coat; no part of it is load-rated.
• Unlined, so it adds almost no warmth. In cold rain, layer a fleece under it or use the fleece-lined Stormguard.
• Check the elasticated leg straps for rubbing behind the elbows and in the groin.
• Take the coat off indoors rather than letting it dry on the dog.
