Ancol Viva Adjustable Dog Collar – Blue, 45–70cm (Size 5–9)

A 45–70cm collar takes more punishment than a small one, because the dog wearing it puts more into every walk: more mud, more river, more weight leaning on the webbing. Ancol's poly-weave is meant for that — they describe it as lightweight and weatherproof, rate it for swimming, and it goes in the machine at 30°C, which is the whole argument for nylon over leather on a big dog that gets wet.

The adjustment runs the full 45cm to 70cm, Ancol's size 5–9, set by a slider and closed with a quick-fit and release buckle. Blue is one of five colours made at this size, which is the only size in the range to carry all five.

Performance & Benefits
  • Fits a 45–70cm neck anywhere in the range — Ancol size 5–9.
  • Machine washable at 30°C, so a collar that has been in a river all afternoon can be cleaned properly.
  • Weatherproof poly-weave webbing that will not stiffen or crack after repeated soakings.
  • Rated by Ancol for swimming as well as walking, so it can stay on in water.
  • Quick-fit and release buckle, useful when a big dog needs the collar off quickly.
  • Sliding adjuster holds the length that is set, including through a wash.
  • Widely recyclable, plastic-free packaging.

Suitable For
  • Large and giant breeds measuring 45–70cm at the base of the neck.
  • Dogs that swim daily, work in wet ground or live outdoors in bad weather.
  • Owners who want a collar they can wash rather than one they have to recondition.
  • Heavily coated breeds whose neck measurement shifts through the year.
  • A dog with a neck under 45cm should have the 30–50cm size 2–5 Viva adjustable collar, which we stock in blue too.
  • In the 45–50cm overlap between those two collars, this is the better buy: it fits mid-adjustment, whereas the 30–50cm collar would be let out to its limit. Nothing in the range fits over 70cm.

How to Use
  • Measure round the base of the neck with a soft tape, taking the measurement over the dog's usual coat.
  • Ancol's collar sizes are their own scale, not breed sizes: 1 is 20–26cm, 2 is 26–31cm, 3 is 28–36cm, 4 is 35–43cm, 5 is 39–48cm, 6 is 45–54cm, 7 is 50–59cm, 8 is 55–63cm and 9 is 59–68cm.
  • "Size 5–9" describes a collar adjusting across the top five of those. Ancol's published range for it is 45–70cm — use that, not the size numbers, against your measurement.
  • Fit so two fingers lie flat between the webbing and the neck. That is Ancol's own instruction.
  • Wash at 30°C in the machine. Do not bleach, do not tumble dry, keep it away from radiators and direct sun, and let it dry fully before it goes back on the dog.
  • Re-check the slider position after washing; note where it sat while the collar was still on the dog.

Care & Caution
  • Wash the collar rather than letting mud dry into the webbing; grit at the slider is what wears the adjustment loose.
  • Check the buckle for hairline cracks monthly. On a dog of this size it is the component that carries everything.
  • A collar is not a tethering point. Never leave a dog attached to anything by it.
  • Wet webbing on a wet neck can rub. Take the collar off after a long swim and let both dry.
