Ancol Viva Adjustable Dog Collar – Red, 20–30cm (Size 1–2)

Ten centimetres of adjustment does not sound like much until you put it on a small dog. A range of 20cm to 30cm takes in a neck half again the size of the smallest it will fit, which covers everything from a Chihuahua to a well-built Jack Russell without the guesswork of ordering a fixed size and hoping.

It is made from Ancol's poly-weave webbing in red — thin and light enough that a 3kg dog does not lean against it — and closes with a quick-fit and release buckle. Ancol describe the webbing as weatherproof and rate it for swimming, so a wet walk does not mean taking the collar off first.

How to Use

• Take the measurement round the base of the neck where a collar sits, not up under the jaw, which reads several centimetres short.
• Ancol number their collars 1 to 9 on their own scale: 1 is 20–26cm, 2 is 26–31cm, 3 is 28–36cm, 4 is 35–43cm, 5 is 39–48cm, 6 is 45–54cm, 7 is 50–59cm, 8 is 55–63cm and 9 is 59–68cm.
• This one is called "size 1–2" because its adjustment spans those two sizes. Ancol quote the real range as 20–30cm, and that is the figure to buy on.
• Set the length so two fingers slide flat between webbing and neck, which is Ancol's own check.
• Tuck the spare webbing back through the keeper instead of trimming it.
• Machine wash at 30°C. No bleach, no tumble drying, no drying against a radiator; air dry fully first.

Care & Caution

• Too loose is the real risk on a small dog: a collar that slips over the ears is worse than no collar. Re-check the two-finger fit after the first few walks.
• Not a restraint. Do not tether a dog by its collar or leave it clipped to anything unattended.
• Replace the collar if the buckle cracks or the webbing frays at the slider — both take load.
• Remove it during crate time and rough play with other collared dogs.
