Ancol Viva Adjustable Dog Collar – Red, 45–70cm (Size 5–9)

This is the 45–70cm end of the Viva adjustable range, so any neck between those two figures is covered by one collar. Ancol list it as size 5–9, which places it with large and giant breeds rather than with anything you would sensibly call a medium dog — 45cm is already a big gundog.

Red is one of five colours Ancol make at this size, and the Viva range is built to match across products: the Ancol Viva Padded Lead comes in the same red in 1m x 12mm and 1m x 19mm, and on a dog that needs a 45–70cm collar the 19mm lead is the sensible partner rather than the 12mm.

Performance & Benefits
  • One collar for a 45–70cm neck — Ancol size 5–9.
  • Matches the rest of the Viva range in colour, including the Ancol Viva Padded Lead in 12mm and 19mm.
  • Poly-weave webbing, described by Ancol as lightweight and weatherproof.
  • Quick-fit and release buckle for one-handed fitting and removal.
  • Sliding adjuster, so the length is set to the dog rather than to a punched hole.
  • Rated for swimming as well as walks; machine washable at 30°C.
  • Widely recyclable, plastic-free packaging.

Suitable For
  • Large and giant breeds measuring 45–70cm at the neck.
  • Owners matching a collar to a Viva padded lead in the same colour.
  • Dogs that swim or work in wet ground, where nylon is easier to live with than leather.
  • Households with more than one big dog, using colour to tell collars apart.
  • Necks under 45cm are better served by the 30–50cm size 2–5 Viva adjustable collar, which we also stock in red.
  • Between 45 and 50cm the two collars overlap; this one is the better choice there, because the 30–50cm collar is at the far end of its adjustment while this one is barely tightened. Nothing in the range goes beyond 70cm.

How to Use
  • Measure the base of the neck with a soft tape, over the coat the dog normally carries.
  • Ancol's collar numbering is their own scale rather than a breed size: 1 is 20–26cm, 2 is 26–31cm, 3 is 28–36cm, 4 is 35–43cm, 5 is 39–48cm, 6 is 45–54cm, 7 is 50–59cm, 8 is 55–63cm and 9 is 59–68cm.
  • "Size 5–9" therefore describes a collar that spans the top of that scale. Ancol quote its actual range as 45–70cm, which is the figure to buy on.
  • Fit so two fingers lie flat between the webbing and the neck — Ancol's own check — then feed the spare tail back through the keeper.
  • If you are pairing it with a lead, the 19mm Viva padded lead suits this size of dog better than the 12mm.
  • Machine wash at 30°C, no bleach, no tumble dryer, no direct heat; air dry fully before refitting.

Care & Caution
  • Check the buckle monthly. On a 45–70cm dog it takes real force, and a cracked buckle gives way without warning.
  • A collar is not a tie-out. Do not tether a dog by it or leave it clipped to anything unattended.
  • Replace the collar if the webbing frays where it doubles back through the slider.
  • Pair a heavy dog with a lead of matching substance; a 12mm lead on a 70cm neck is under-specified for the job.
