Ancol Viva Padded Collar – Black, Size 5 (39–48cm)

Size 5 fits necks of 39–48cm, and that range deliberately overlaps size 4 between 39 and 43cm. If your dog measures inside the overlap, the deciding factor is the dog rather than the number. A broad-necked, strong-pulling dog at 41cm is better on size 5, where the measurement sits low in the range and there is plenty of strap left before the last hole. A fine-necked dog at the same 41cm is better on size 4, where the neck sits high in that collar's range and you are not left with a long tail of webbing flapping under the chin.

Beyond the sizing, this is standard Viva: poly-weave webbing with soft padding behind it, a satin buckle, an ID loop and 9cm of adjustment. Ancol rate the range for walking, running, playing and swimming, and it machine washes at 30°C.

How to Use

• Measure the base of the neck, then decide the overlap on build and pulling habit rather than on the tape alone.
• Set the buckle so two fingers lie flat under the webbing.
• Aim to sit mid-range if you can — a collar on its first or last hole has nowhere left to go.
• Attach the ID tag to the loop.
• Machine wash at 30°C, do not tumble dry, air dry before refitting.

Care & Caution

• Check the buckle and the stitching each side of the ID loop regularly, and replace the collar once either shows wear.
• Take the collar off for unsupervised crate time — buckles and tags catch on bars and mesh.
• Not a lifting handle, and not a point to tie a dog to.
• No bleach, no tumble drying, no radiator.
