Ancol Viva Padded Lead – Black, 1m x 12mm

This is the 12mm width, which is the narrower of the two Ancol offer at a metre, and the width is the actual decision here rather than the colour. Ancol rate 12mm for dogs up to 20kg — Cockers, Whippets, Terriers, small Collies and most mid-sized crossbreeds. Above that weight the webbing is not the problem so much as the hand: a 12mm strap under 30kg of sudden pull cuts into the fingers.

One metre is a pavement length, not a countryside one. It gives a dog enough room to walk at your side and sniff a kerb without giving it enough to reach the road, which is exactly what you want on a school run or through a town. It is the wrong lead for open ground — for a field or a beach you want two metres or more, or a long line, and this will feel restrictive within minutes.

Performance & Benefits
  • 12mm webbing, which Ancol rate for dogs up to 20kg.
  • 1m length — close control for pavements, traffic, shops and vet waiting rooms.
  • Cushioned neoprene padded handle, so the loop does not bite when a dog checks.
  • Satin-finish snap hook that takes a collar ring or a harness attachment point.
  • Poly-weave webbing Ancol describe as lightweight and weatherproof.
  • Machine washable at 30°C, and supplied in widely recyclable, plastic-free packaging.
<>
Suitable For
  • Dogs up to 20kg, on Ancol's own weight guidance for this width.
  • Pavement walking, town centres, kerbside work and close heelwork.
  • Dogs already walking well on a loose lead.
  • Owners who want a light lead that coils into a pocket.
  • Not enough width for a strong dog over 20kg — the Ancol Viva Padded Lead Black 1m x 19mm is rated to 50kg. And 1m is too short for open ground; a longer lead or a long line suits a field or beach better.

How to Use
  • Clip the snap hook to the collar's loop or the harness ring, and check the gate has snapped fully shut.
  • Take the padded handle over the wrist and hold the webbing below it, rather than wrapping the lead round your hand.
  • Keep a slight curve of slack in it — a metre gives you no room to absorb a lunge if it is already tight.
  • Machine wash at 30°C. No bleach, no tumble drying, no direct heat.
  • Air dry fully before use; the neoprene handle holds damp longer than the webbing.

Care & Caution
  • Check the snap hook gate, its spring and the stitching either side of it before each walk. That is where a lead fails, not in the middle of the webbing.
  • Not a tie-out or tether. Never leave a dog attached to a fixed point by this lead.
  • Not a chew toy — a dog that mouths the lead will fray 12mm webbing quickly.
  • Do not tumble dry or dry on a radiator; heat hardens the webbing and the neoprene.
