At 19mm this is the wider of the two 1m Viva leads, rated by Ancol for dogs up to 50kg against 20kg for the 12mm. If you are buying it to match a collar, that width rating is the thing to check first, because collar size and lead width do not line up as neatly as the colours suggest. A neck measurement tells you nothing about how hard a dog pulls.

In practice a dog on a size 5 or size 6 padded Viva collar is usually in the 19mm lead's territory, and a dog on a size 4 collar is usually in the 12mm's. But a 12kg terrier with a 38cm neck that lunges at every bicycle belongs on the 19mm regardless of the tables, and a placid 30kg Labrador walks perfectly happily on the 12mm. How to Use
