This is the 10mm Viva rope lead in pink — the thinner of Ancol's two thicknesses, which they rate for dogs up to 30kg. That makes it the sensible everyday choice for small and mid-sized dogs, and it is 1.07m long like the rest of the range. If your dog is heavier than 30kg or pulls hard, take the 12mm instead.

One lead on its own is a fairly thin line of reflectivity, and most of it sits between you and the dog rather than on the dog. If the reason for buying reflective is being seen from the side by a car, a matching Viva collar or a clip-on light does far more for the dog's own outline than a lead can. How to Use

• Clip the trigger hook to the D-ring of a collar or harness that fits properly.
• Handle loop over the wrist, slack in the hand. Do not wrap the rope round your fingers.
• Pull the hook against the ring to check the gate has closed.
• Wipe clean with a damp cloth and let it air dry naturally.

Care & Caution

• Reflective is not illuminated. The weave needs a headlight or torch beam to work and does nothing in the dark on its own — add a lit collar band or a clip-on light.
