Animology Tear Stain Remover – 100ml

Tear staining is not really a stain problem, it is a dirt problem: tears carry deposits down onto the fur below the eye, they sit there in a permanently damp corner, and they darken. Animology's solution works on exactly that — they describe it as helping to reduce the build-up of deposits of dirt around the eyes and prevent excessive staining.

It is a deliberately short and mild formula: water, decyl glucoside as a very gentle non-ionic surfactant, disodium EDTA and phenoxyethanol as the preservative. Animology state it is 100% vegan, paraben free and contains no sulphates. The bottle has a directional nozzle so you can put a few drops exactly where you want them rather than near the eye itself.

• It cleans the fur; it does not stop the tearing. Persistent overflow from one eye usually means a blocked tear duct, an ingrown lash or an irritated eye, and that needs a vet rather than a cleaner.

How to Use

• Add a few drops to the affected area using the directional nozzle.
• Wipe clean with a cotton ball or a soft cloth, working away from the eye rather than towards it.
• Use a fresh piece of cotton for each eye.
• Repeat regularly as part of grooming — existing staining fades gradually as the stained hair grows out, so consistency matters more than scrubbing.

Care & Caution

• This goes on the fur below the eye, not into the eye. Do not drop it onto the eyeball, and do not aim the nozzle at it.
• If any gets into the eye, flush with clean water and speak to your vet.
• A red, swollen, squinting or sticky eye, or a dog that is rubbing its face, is a veterinary matter. Cleaning the fur around an eye problem hides it rather than fixing it.
• Do not use it on broken skin, and stop if the skin under the eye becomes sore — that fold is often already inflamed on a heavily staining dog.
• Formulated for dogs. Do not use it on cats.
