Baileys Alfalfa Plus Oil – 20kg

Alfalfa Plus Oil is pure high-temperature dried alfalfa, chopped and given a generous soya oil coating. That takes it to 11.5% oil and 12.5 MJ/kg — Baileys reckon it carries an energy content equivalent to some conditioning and competition feeds, but delivers it as fibre and oil rather than as cereal starch.

There is no molasses and no straw in it: the bag holds two ingredients. Starch sits at 3% and sugar at 2.5%, which is why Baileys name horses prone to laminitis or to tying-up among those it suits. Supplied in 20kg.

Performance & Benefits

Feeding

• Feed alongside forage, mixed into a hard feed or fed on its own.
• One level Stubbs round bowl holds about 0.4kg, and Baileys ask that you feed by weight rather than by scoop.
• Introduce oil-rich feeds gradually, over ten days to a fortnight, so the gut adapts.
• It can replace part of the hay or haylage ration where forage quality is poor.
• Baileys publish no per-workload feeding rate for this chaff on their website; their nutrition line will set one for your horse.
