Baileys No.26 Senior Soft & Lite – 20kg
No.26 is the veteran feed for a horse that needs less rather than more: 9.5 MJ/kg, starch at 8% and sugar at 3%, built on soya bean hulls, oatfeed, nutritionally improved straw and unmolassed beet pulp. It soaks to a soft mash in about ten minutes in cold water, so a horse with very little grinding surface left can still eat it.
The gut support in it is unusually thorough — fructo-oligosaccharide and mannan-oligosaccharide prebiotics, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a postbiotic and grape pip solubles — alongside meadow grasses and 1% nettle. This is the Baileys feed for the veteran that is also laminitic or PPID. Supplied in 20kg.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Starch 8% and sugar 3% — low enough for a laminitic or PPID veteran.
- 9.5 MJ/kg with 21% fibre, so it holds condition without piling calories on.
- Soaks to a soft mash in around ten minutes in cold water.
- Fructo-oligosaccharide and mannan-oligosaccharide prebiotics plus Saccharomyces cerevisiae and a postbiotic.
- 12% protein and 5.5% oil from soya, sunflower meal, distillers' grains, soya oil and micronised linseed.
- Meadow grasses and 1% nettle in the blend.
Suitable For
- Senior horses and ponies with reduced calorie requirements.
- Veterans that need a low-starch ration.
- Horses with poor dentition or a picky appetite.
- Horses prone to laminitis, or diagnosed with PPID.
- Good doers needing weight management rather than weight gain.
- A thin veteran needing weight back on wants more energy than this — Baileys No.24 Ease & Excel Cubes are the low-starch conditioning feed we stock.
Feeding
- Soak to a soft mash, about ten minutes in cold water.
- One level Stubbs round bowl scoop holds about 2kg of dry, unsoaked feed.
- Feed by the dry weight of the feed, not by the volume of the soaked mash.
- Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg per 100kg bodyweight, dry weight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
- Make it up fresh for each feed and do not leave soaked mash standing in warm weather.
- Baileys publish their per-workload rates on the bag rather than online; their nutrition team will set a rate.
