Baileys No.7 Stud & Youngstock Mix – 20kg

No.7 is the traditional oat-based stud ration: bruised oats and micronised barley, maize, soya and peas, with soya bean meal and whey taking protein to 16% — the highest figure of any feed in the Baileys range, and the reason it suits a lactating mare and a growing foal.

Calcium sits at 1.25% and phosphorus at 0.7%, and yeast culture and Digest Plus scFOS prebiotic go in for hindgut stability. Starch is 32%, which is what an oat-based mix comes to and what separates it from the No.3 cubes at 23%. Supplied in 20kg.

Feeding

• Feed by weight alongside forage. One level Stubbs round bowl scoop holds about 1.4kg of mix.
• Baileys base their stud feeding tables on anticipated mature bodyweight rather than current weight, which matters when feeding youngstock.
• Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg of mix per 100kg bodyweight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
• Keep total meal size within 1.5–2kg for a horse or 1.25–1.5kg for a pony, chaff and beet pulp included.
• Baileys publish their stud tables on the bag rather than on their website; their nutrition team will set rates for a particular mare or foal.

Care & Caution

• Starch is 32%. Not suitable for a horse with laminitis, insulin resistance or PPID.
• Overfeeding energy and protein to growing youngstock is associated with developmental orthopaedic problems. Feed to a growth target rather than to appetite.
• Keep to Baileys' 0.5kg per 100kg bodyweight meal limit and split the day's ration.
• Reassess a mare's rate at weaning, when her requirement falls away sharply.
