Blue Chip Original Feed Balancer – 15kg

Original is Blue Chip's everyday balancer: a concentrated pellet fed in small amounts to fill the gaps a forage-based diet leaves, rather than a hard feed fed for energy. Blue Chip's own analysis puts it at 17.5% crude protein, 5.5% oil, 13% fibre and 10.6 MJ/kg digestible energy.

The reason people buy balancers by the sack is that a sack lasts. Blue Chip state that one sack lasts an average-sized horse approximately 30 days and a small pony approximately 60 days, which puts a 15kg bag at roughly a month for a horse and two for a pony.

Performance & Benefits
  • Concentrated pelleted balancer, fed by the handful rather than the scoop.
  • 17.5% crude protein, aimed at topline and condition on a forage diet.
  • Linseed expeller in the mix and 5.5% oil, which shows in the coat.
  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae — live yeast — and nucleotides, for fibre digestion and nutrient uptake.
  • Vitamins and minerals included, so it can replace a separate broad-spectrum supplement.
  • Rosemary extract and garlic powder in the declared formulation.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses and ponies on a forage-based diet needing what forage alone cannot supply.
  • Good doers who need the nutrients but not the calories of a hard feed.
  • Horses being brought back into condition and topline.
  • Feeding alongside hay, haylage or grazing.
  • Not a source of working energy on its own — a horse in hard work needs a conditioning feed alongside it, such as CoolStance Copra.

Feeding
  • Blue Chip state that one 15kg sack lasts an average-sized horse approximately 30 days and a small pony approximately 60 days.
  • That works out at roughly 500g a day for an average horse and roughly 250g a day for a small pony.
  • Blue Chip give the daily rate as a feeding chart by bodyweight rather than as text in their product information; follow the chart on the sack for your own horse.
  • Feed in a normal bucket feed with a handful of chaff, or damp it down if fed on its own.
  • Introduce gradually over seven to ten days.

Composition & Analysis
  • Composition as declared by Blue Chip: wheatfeed, soya (bean) hulls (GM) and linseed expeller, calcium carbonate, monocalcium phosphate, sodium chloride, magnesium oxide, calcium sulphate anhydrous (pellet binder), vitamins and minerals, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, nucleotides, rosemary extract and garlic powder.
  • Typical analysis: digestible energy 10.6 MJ/kg, crude protein 17.5%, crude oils and fats 5.5%, crude fibre 13%, crude ash 10.5%, sodium 0.4%.
  • Contains GM soya hulls, as declared above.
  • Blue Chip publish no starch or sugar percentage for Original, so none is stated here despite low-starch and molasses-free claims on some listings.
  • A PrimoVento blend containing menthol and eucalyptus is claimed on some listings; neither ingredient appears in Blue Chip's declared composition for Original.
  • Blue Chip's published information for Original carries no BETA NOPS or UFAS statement. Check with them before feeding to a horse competing under FEI or BHA rules. 15kg sack.
