Burgess Excel Guinea Pig Nuggets with Blackcurrant & Oregano – 1.5kg

A single-component nugget rather than a muesli, which is the whole point of it: a guinea pig given a mix will pick out the cereal and leave the fibre behind, and a uniform nugget makes that impossible. Grass meal leads the composition, with dried lucerne, wholegrain wheat and wholegrain maize behind it.

Vitamin C is declared at 1,050mg/kg. Guinea pigs are unusual among small pets in being unable to make their own and will develop scurvy without a dietary source, so that figure is the most important number on the bag. Beneficial fibre sits at 31% and crude protein at 17%.

Performance & Benefits
  • Vitamin C declared at 1,050mg/kg, protected within the nugget.
  • Beneficial fibre at 31%, with crude fibre at 15%.
  • Single nugget format, so selective feeding is not physically possible.
  • Grass meal is the first ingredient, ahead of the cereals.
  • Short chain fructo-oligosaccharides at 0.25% as a prebiotic.
  • Dried blackcurrant at 0.1% and dried oregano at 0.06% for palatability.
<>
Suitable For
  • Guinea pigs of all ages — Burgess place no age restriction on it.
  • Households moving off a muesli mix that is being picked over.
  • Feeding alongside unlimited hay and a daily handful of leafy greens.
  • Owners who want the vitamin C level stated as a figure rather than implied.
  • Rabbits do not need added vitamin C and belong on Burgess Excel Adult Rabbit Nuggets with Mint; equally, a guinea pig fed rabbit nuggets will be left short of vitamin C.
<>
Feeding
  • Feed a small measured portion of nuggets; hay or grass makes up the bulk of the diet and should be available at all times.
  • Add a small handful of leafy greens each day.
  • Fresh clean water constantly available.
  • Change over from a muesli gradually, mixing the new food in across about a week.
  • Burgess give their guidance as a five-step feeding plan rather than a grams-per-day table, so no fixed daily weight is quoted here.
