BurlyBed Original Miscanthus Pellets
BurlyBed Original Pellets are the same 100% miscanthus as the shredded bedding, compressed into pellets. Dampened down, Burlybed say they at least double in size from their dry weight, which is why a pelleted bed goes down as a few bags and comes up as a full, mouldable bed with banks that hold their shape.
They can be used wet or dry, and mixed with another bedding if you want a hybrid. Burlybed's own testing puts the miscanthus pellet ahead of wood or straw pellet alternatives for absorbency. Beyond horses, they are used for poultry, small animals and as cat litter.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 100% miscanthus, processed on the farm to expose the absorbent inner core.
- At least double in size from dry weight once dampened, according to Burlybed.
- Burlybed's in-house testing rates them more absorbent than wood or straw pellet alternatives.
- Can be used wet or dry, and mixed with other bedding to make your own blend.
- Compact to store and carry compared with a shredded bale.
- Packed in low density polyethylene, the same material as a supermarket bag for life, made from one third recycled content and 100% recyclable.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies, on a traditional bed or deep litter.
- Poultry, small animals and use as cat litter.
- Yards short on bedding storage, since pellets take less room than bales.
- Owners who want banks that hold their shape.
- Not the quickest option if you want to throw a bed down and use it immediately — the shredded BurlyBed Original goes straight in dry.
How to Use
- In a 12ft by 12ft stable, use 5 to 7 bags for a traditional bed, up to 8 for deep litter.
- Add half to one full bucket of water per bag when setting the bed up.
- Let the pellets break down and spread before putting the horse back in.
- Skip out daily; the broken-down material lifts much like a shavings bed.
- Recycle the empty bags with carrier bags at a supermarket collection point.
