Canagan Dental Free Run Turkey Dry Dog Food – 12kg
Dental care from a kibble only works if the dog eats it every day for months, which is the argument for the 12kg sack: a 20kg dog on maintenance gets two months from it, and the ProDen PlaqueOff at 2,500 mg/kg goes on doing its work uninterrupted. Canagan describe PlaqueOff as approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council.
The recipe is free-run turkey at 33% with dried chicken at 18.7%, omega 6 at 3.04% — the highest in the Canagan dry dog range — and calcium held down at 1.2%. It is the same food as the 2kg and 6kg bags, bought at the size that makes daily feeding practical.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 12kg, Canagan's largest bag of the Dental recipe.
- ProDen PlaqueOff 2,500 mg/kg, which Canagan describe as approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council.
- Freshly prepared free-run turkey 33%, dried chicken 18.7%.
- Omega 6 at 3.04%, the highest of the Canagan dry dog recipes.
- Calcium 1.2% and phosphorus 0.9%, lower than Country Game or Highland Feast.
- Glucosamine and MSM at 850 mg/kg, chondroitin sulphate at 620 mg/kg.
Suitable For
- Puppies and adults, on Canagan's own labelling.
- Large breeds and multi-dog households on a long-term dental regime.
- Owners committed to the recipe and buying on cost per kilo.
- Dogs whose teeth need daily management rather than an occasional chew.
- Not for a pregnant or lactating bitch, or a dog under thyroid treatment — see Care & Caution below.
- A single small dog will not finish 12kg while it is fresh; the Small Breed Dental 2kg bag is the size and the kibble for that dog.
Feeding
- Canagan's adult guide, in grams a day for maintenance and for active dogs: 5kg 80g/100g, 10kg 120g/150g, 15kg 150g/190g, 20kg 200g/240g, 30kg 290g/350g, 40kg 370g/420g, 50kg 450g/540g.
- Puppy portions run by expected adult weight: 65–90g a day for a toy breed, 145–180g for 5–10kg, 215–255g for 10–25kg and 375–430g for 25–45kg, tapering back to adult rations from around a year.
- Change over across a week: a quarter Canagan on day one, half by day three, three quarters by day five, all of it by day seven.
- Cut the ration by 10% if the dog carries too much weight and raise it by 10% if it carries too little.
- A 12kg sack runs about two months for a 20kg dog on maintenance.
- Decant into an airtight container once open and keep it out of the light.

Care & Caution
- Canagan state that Dental is not recommended for a dog that is pregnant, lactating, or undergoing thyroid treatment.
- The caution follows from ProDen PlaqueOff, which is seaweed-derived and therefore a source of iodine. Ask your vet before feeding it to a dog on thyroid medication.
- It is a food, not a treatment. A dog with established periodontal disease needs a dental examination first; kibble will not shift what is already there.
