Canagan Free-Run Chicken Dry Cat Food – 1.5kg
Canagan's dry cat food leads on chicken: 35% freshly prepared free-range chicken with a further 26% dried, and chicken fat and chicken gravy on top of that, which is how Canagan arrive at their over-65% figure. Crude protein is 34.5% and crude fat 20%, at 406 kcal per 100g — a dense food, which is what an obligate carnivore is built for.
Taurine is added at 1,300 mg/kg and vitamin A at 17,000 IU per kg, both above the dog recipes, as a cat needs them from the diet. At 1.5kg the bag suits one cat: a 4kg adult eating 45–60g a day will take roughly a month over it. Canagan also make 375g, 4kg and 8kg.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 61% chicken meat — 35% freshly prepared free-range and 26% dried — before chicken fat and gravy.
- Crude protein 34.5% with crude fat 20% and crude fibre only 2%.
- 406 kcal per 100g, so portions stay small.
- Taurine added at 1,300 mg/kg and vitamin A at 17,000 IU per kg.
- Mannanoligosaccharides and fructooligosaccharides as prebiotics, with psyllium for fibre.
- Grain free, using sweet potato and potato rather than wheat, maize or rice.
Suitable For
- Adult cats and kittens; Canagan label it for both.
- One-cat households — 1.5kg is about a month for a 4kg cat.
- Cats moving off a cereal-based dry food onto something meat-led.
- Not suitable for a cat that reacts to chicken or egg: dried egg is in at 4%. Canagan Scottish Salmon Dry Cat Food is the alternative.
- A cat that drinks little does better with some wet food alongside; Canagan's cat cans and the Ocean Fish Soup both help with fluid intake.
Feeding
- Adult cats: 25–35g a day under 2.5kg bodyweight, 35–45g at 2.5–3.5kg, 45–60g at 3.5–4.5kg, 60g and above over 4.5kg.
- Kittens: 20–30g a day under two months, 30–55g at two to four months, 55–75g at four to six months, 75g and above from six to twelve months.
- Split the ration across the day or leave it down to graze — cats eat in small amounts.
- Introduce over a week: a quarter Canagan on day one, half by day three, three-quarters by day five, all of it by day seven.
- Always keep fresh water available, and adjust the amount by 10% either way to hold condition.
