The 6kg bag is the middle size of Canagan's Free-Run Chicken, and for most households it is the one that works out. A 20kg dog on maintenance eats 200g a day, so the bag lasts a month almost exactly; a 15kg dog on 150g gets forty days out of it. Same kibble, same recipe and same 391 kcal per 100g as the 2kg and 12kg bags.

What is in it is free-range chicken at 26% freshly prepared and 26% dried, with sweet potato and potato carrying the carbohydrate rather than any cereal. Joint support is built in at 830 mg/kg each of glucosamine and MSM, with chondroitin sulphate at 610 mg/kg, so there is no need to add a separate supplement on top.

Feeding

• Adult maintenance, under an hour of exercise: 150g at 15kg bodyweight, 200g at 20kg, 290g at 30kg.
• Active adults over an hour a day: 190g at 15kg, 240g at 20kg, 350g at 30kg.
• Large-breed puppies of 25–45kg expected adult weight take 375g at two to three months, rising to 430g at eight to nine months, then tapering back.
• Introduce over seven days, moving from a quarter Canagan to the whole ration.
• Weigh the food rather than scooping it — the difference between maintenance and active rates is only a couple of handfuls.
