Canagan Highland Feast Dry Dog Food – 2kg

Highland Feast is the broadest recipe Canagan make for dogs: duck, turkey, chicken, pheasant, salmon, herring and egg all appear in the composition, seven animal sources feeding into a declared 35% crude protein. Lentils and chickpea sit alongside sweet potato and tapioca on the carbohydrate side.

The 2kg bag is a fortnight's food for a 10kg dog on Canagan's maintenance rate, which is about right for deciding whether a broad-spectrum recipe suits. Dogs with a known sensitivity are the wrong audience for it — seven proteins is seven things to rule out.

Performance & Benefits
  • Seven animal protein sources: duck, turkey, chicken, pheasant, salmon, herring and egg.
  • Freshly prepared duck 14% and freshly prepared turkey 14% lead the list.
  • Freshly prepared pheasant at 4.4%, unusual in a dry dog food.
  • Crude protein 35% with crude fat 19%, at 397 kcal per 100g.
  • Glucosamine and MSM at 780 mg/kg each, chondroitin sulphate at 570 mg/kg.
  • Grain free, with lentils, chickpea, tapioca and sweet potato.

Suitable For
  • Puppies and adults — Canagan label Highland Feast For Puppies & Adults.
  • Dogs in hard condition that suit a richer 19% fat food.
  • Owners who want variety of protein rather than a single meat.
  • A short trial before buying a larger bag.
  • The wrong recipe for a dog on an exclusion diet — with seven animal proteins there is nothing to eliminate. Canagan Grass Fed Lamb or the Insect Protein recipe are the ones for that job.

Feeding
  • Canagan's adult guide, in grams a day for maintenance and for active dogs: 5kg 80g/100g, 10kg 120g/150g, 15kg 150g/190g, 20kg 200g/240g, 30kg 290g/350g, 40kg 370g/420g, 50kg 450g/540g.
  • Puppy portions run by expected adult weight: 65–90g a day for a toy breed, 145–180g for 5–10kg, 215–255g for 10–25kg and 375–430g for 25–45kg, tapering back to adult rations from around a year.
  • Change over across a week: a quarter Canagan on day one, half by day three, three quarters by day five, all of it by day seven.
  • Cut the ration by 10% if the dog carries too much weight and raise it by 10% if it carries too little.
  • A 2kg bag covers around sixteen days for a 10kg dog at the maintenance rate.
  • Keep water available at all times and store the bag closed in a cool dry place.
