Canagan Light/Senior Free Range Chicken Dry Dog Food – 6kg
Of all Canagan's dry dog recipes, this one carries the most joint support: glucosamine and MSM at 1,440 mg/kg apiece and chondroitin sulphate at 1,050 mg/kg. For comparison, the standard Free-Run Chicken has 830 and 610, and Grass Fed Lamb has 570 and 410. If a dog is on the food for its hips rather than its waistline, that is the number that matters.
The weight side is handled by cutting fat to 14% and energy to 372 kcal per 100g while leaving protein at 34%. Chicken content actually rises slightly, to 27% freshly prepared plus 27% dried. A 6kg bag covers a 20kg senior eating 220g a day for four weeks, or a 10kg senior for the better part of seven.
<>Performance & Benefits
- The highest glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin levels of any Canagan dry dog food.
- 34% crude protein with crude fat held down to 14%.
- 372 kcal per 100g — roughly 5% less energy per gram than the standard chicken recipe.
- 54% chicken in total: 27% freshly prepared free-range and 27% dried.
- Crude ash 8.5% and calcium 1.6%, both a little above the standard recipe.
- Grain free, with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.
Suitable For
- Older dogs of 15–25kg, where a 6kg bag is about a month.
- Dogs carrying extra weight that still need a full protein level.
- Dogs with early arthritic change, as a way of getting joint support in without a separate supplement.
- For adults only — Canagan do not recommend this recipe for puppies, who should have Canagan Free-Run Chicken.
- A dog that needs the calories rather than fewer of them should stay on the standard Free-Run Chicken at 391 kcal.
Feeding
- Senior maintenance from seven years: 130g at 10kg bodyweight, 170g at 15kg, 220g at 20kg, 290g at 30kg.
- Overweight dogs: 110g at 10kg, 150g at 15kg, 190g at 20kg, 250g at 30kg.
- At the top of the range, senior maintenance is 350g at 40kg and 420g at 50kg.
- Introduce gradually over seven days, working from 25% Canagan up to the full ration.
- Adjust by 10% either way and hold it for a few weeks before changing again — weight should come off slowly.
