Softies are Canagan's pocket treat — soft, pliable pieces at 17% moisture that tear in half without crumbling, which is what you want when a dog is learning something and the reward has to be quick. This one is built on quail at 30%, with chicken at 11%, collagen at 4% and oregano at 0.5%.

The collagen is the point of difference from an ordinary meaty treat: Canagan include it for skin, coat and nail condition. The analysis is 31% crude protein against 6% crude fat, so they are reasonably lean for something this palatable. Quail is the least common of the four Softies flavours — the others are chicken, salmon and duck.

Feeding

• Feed as a complementary treat alongside a complete diet, not in place of one.
