Canagan Small Breed Free-Range Chicken – 2kg

This is Canagan's standard free-range chicken recipe pressed into a smaller kibble. The nutrition is aimed squarely at small dogs: 52% chicken, 34% crude protein and 391 kcal per 100g, which matters because a 5kg terrier eats 80g a day and every gram has to count for more than it does in a 30kg dog's bowl.

Small breeds are also the dogs most prone to dental trouble and to knee and joint problems, so the recipe carries glucosamine and MSM at 830 mg/kg each with chondroitin sulphate at 610 mg/kg. The 2kg bag is the smaller of the two Canagan make, and lasts a 5kg dog about three and a half weeks.

Performance & Benefits
  • 52% chicken — 26% freshly prepared free-range chicken and 26% dried chicken.
  • Smaller kibble, sized for a small dog's mouth rather than broken down from a standard one.
  • Crude protein 34% and crude fat 17%, at 391 kcal per 100g.
  • Glucosamine and MSM at 830 mg/kg each, chondroitin sulphate at 610 mg/kg.
  • Salmon oil 1.2%, dried egg 3% and chicken fat 4.2%.
  • Grain free, with sweet potato, peas and potato instead of cereal.
<>
Suitable For
  • Small breed adults up to about 10kg.
  • Small breed puppies — Canagan list the recipe for puppies as well as adults.
  • One-dog households where a 2kg bag is finished in three or four weeks.
  • Small dogs that need the joint inclusion as they get older.
  • Not sized for a medium or large dog — Canagan Free-Run Chicken Dry Dog Food in 2kg, 6kg or 12kg is the same style of recipe in a standard kibble.
<>
Feeding
  • Canagan's small breed adult guide, under an hour of exercise a day: 3kg dog 50g, 5kg 80g, 7kg 100g, 10kg 120g.
  • Active small dogs over an hour a day: 65g, 100g, 120g and 150g at the same weights.
  • Small breed puppies by expected adult weight — a toy breed peaks at 90g a day at 6–7 months, a 5–10kg dog at 180g and a 10–25kg dog at 255g.
  • Weigh the ration. On a 3kg dog, a heaped scoop instead of a level one is a substantial overfeed.
  • Introduce over a week, adjust by 10% on condition, and keep fresh water available.
