Canagan Small Breed Light/Senior Dry Dog Food – 6kg
6kg is the larger of the two bags Canagan pack the Small Breed Light/Senior recipe in, and for a small dog it is a long time's feeding — a 7kg senior on 105g a day gets nearly eight weeks out of it, a 5kg dog on 80g gets close to eleven. Worth thinking about before buying: small kibble in a big bag stays open a while, so keep it rolled down and cool.
The recipe is Canagan's reduced-calorie chicken formula in a small kibble: 27% freshly prepared free-range chicken with 27% dried, crude protein at 34% and crude fat at 14%, and the highest joint levels Canagan use — glucosamine and MSM at 1,440 mg/kg, chondroitin sulphate at 1,050 mg/kg.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Eight weeks or more of feeding for a typical small senior, at a better price per kilo than the 2kg bag.
- 34% crude protein with fat content at 14% and crude ash at 8.5%.
- Glucosamine 1,440 mg/kg, MSM 1,440 mg/kg, chondroitin sulphate 1,050 mg/kg.
- Small kibble sized for terriers, spaniels and toy breeds.
- Grain free — sweet potato, potato and peas in place of wheat, maize or rice.
- Calcium 1.6% and phosphorus 0.95%, with taurine added at 1,500 mg/kg.
Suitable For
- Households with more than one small dog, or a single dog settled on the recipe.
- Small breeds of seven years and over on Canagan's senior maintenance amounts.
- Small dogs that need weight off without dropping below a 34% protein level.
- Adults only — Canagan do not recommend a reduced-calorie food for a growing puppy.
- If a 6kg bag would take three months to empty, the 2kg bag is the better buy; the fat in any dry food degrades once the bag is open.
Feeding
- Senior maintenance from seven years: 50g at 3kg bodyweight, 80g at 5kg, 105g at 7kg, 130g at 10kg.
- Overweight dogs: 40g at 3kg, 70g at 5kg, 90g at 7kg, 110g at 10kg.
- Canagan's transition is 25% new food on day one, 50% on day three, 75% on day five and 100% on day seven.
- Reduce by 10% if the dog is carrying weight, increase by 10% if it is losing too much, then hold.
- Keep clean water down at all times; a dog eating only dry food takes most of its fluid separately.
