A textured muesli built for the horse or pony that has started to drop weight with age. It is high in fibre and oil and low in starch and sugar, so the calories arrive without the cereal load that older, Cushingoid horses tend not to tolerate. Dodson & Horrell formulated it against international research on the nutritional needs of the older horse, and it carries the approval of The Veteran Horse Society.

The mix is soft and very palatable, and it can be dampened into a mash for a horse whose teeth are no longer up to chewing dry feed. Alongside the calories it carries added L-lysine for muscle, live Actisaf yeast for the hindgut, glucosamine and MSM for joints, and chelated minerals, which are absorbed more readily than inorganic forms.

• Not a low-calorie feed. For a veteran holding weight well, Daily Vitamins & Minerals is the better fit.

Feeding

• Feed 400g–1kg per 100kg bodyweight per day with free access to forage.
• Do not exceed 1kg per 100kg bodyweight per day in total.
• Divide into at least two to three meals a day.
• Dampen the feed if the horse struggles to chew.
• Where a horse is losing weight, have the teeth checked first and use a forage replacer if forage intake has dropped.
