Dulce Amargura Añejo Tequila 1L
Dulce Amargura, "sweet bitterness," is a tequila house from El Arenal, Jalisco, in the Tequila Valley, known above all for its hand-painted ceramic bottles, each one decorated by Mexican artisans. This is the añejo, in a 1-liter bottle. It's produced at NOM 1466 from 100% blue Weber agave that matures for around five years in the field before the brand's jimadores harvest it, following traditions the house has kept for more than 30 years. The agave is cooked in a stone and brick oven, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and double distilled in stainless pot stills with deep well water, then aged in oak for the added time the añejo category requires. According to Total Wine's tasting notes, the barrel shows through in subtle aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, burnt vanilla, maple and caramel, with preserved fruit and citrus coming through on the palate. It's a rich, dessert-leaning añejo that suits a slow pour neat or over a single large cube after dinner, and the bottle makes an easy gift for anyone who collects tequila decanters.
