A 250 watt hard glass infrared lamp on a standard E27 screw cap, the type used over brooders, farrowing pens and creep areas. Hard glass rather than ordinary bulb glass is the point of it: the envelope tolerates the thermal shock of a cold draught or a splash without failing, which is why these are specified for livestock housing rather than a household bulb.

The barcode on this bulb corresponds to Albert Kerbl GmbH reference 22245, their 250 W red infrared lamp; Kerbl list the clear version separately as 22252. Kerbl rate the lamp at approximately 5,000 operating hours and describe it as splash-proof.

How to Use

• Suspend it by chain from a secure fixing — never by the flex.
• Set the height so the animals can move in and out of the warm spot, and adjust it as they grow.
• Let the bulb cool fully before handling or repositioning it.

Care & Caution

• Runs extremely hot. Mount it well clear of straw, shavings, timber, plastic and anything else that can scorch, and never let bedding build up beneath it.
• Use a ceramic holder with a proper guard, and suspend it on a chain rather than on the cable.
• Keep it clear of water jets, and do not handle or move it until it has fully cooled.
• Check the fitting, flex and suspension daily while it is in use. A failed lamp over dry bedding is a fire.
• Infrared is intense at close range — set the height so animals can move away from the heat.
