Equerry Veteran Mash – 20kg

A mash written for the older horse, at an estimated 11.5 MJ/kg with 12% protein, 18% fibre and 3.75% oil. Sugar is held to 5% and starch to 9%, which is modest for a feed carrying flaked barley and maize, and the fibre level is high enough that it does a share of the forage job as well as the bucket job.

The mash format is the reason to choose it over a cube or mix. Teeth are usually what limits an old horse, and a feed that arrives already soft and wet removes the chewing problem entirely. It also carries water into a horse that is not drinking well, which matters more in a cold winter than most owners expect.

Performance & Benefits
  • Estimated 11.5 MJ/kg with 12% protein, 18% fibre and 3.75% oil.
  • Sugar at 5% and starch at 9%, modest for a feed containing flaked cereals.
  • Linseed expeller and soya oil for coat condition and calorie density.
  • Fortified with a vitamin and mineral premix, plus yeast for digestive support.
  • Soaks to a soft mash, so dental limitations stop being the deciding factor.
<>
Suitable For
  • Veteran and senior horses needing a nutritious, easy-to-eat feed.
  • Horses with dental limitations that struggle with a traditional hard feed.
  • Older horses needing help to hold condition through winter.
  • Horses that drink poorly in cold weather.
  • Contains flaked barley, maize and molasses — not the right feed for a laminitic veteran, where CushCare Condition is the low-starch option.
<>
Feeding
  • Mix with warm water to the consistency the horse prefers and let it swell fully.
  • Feed according to bodyweight and condition alongside free access to forage.
  • Introduce gradually over seven to ten days.
  • Make up fresh for each feed and always provide clean, fresh water.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: wheatfeed, high-fibre oat by-product, flaked barley, molasses, soya extract (GM), flaked maize, linseed expeller, dried lucerne, soya oil, vitamin and mineral premix, micronised flaked peas, grass meal, dried beet pulp, yeast. 20kg.
  • Protein 12%. Oil 3.75%. Fibre 18%. Sugar 5%. Starch 9%.
  • Digestible energy 11.5 MJ/kg.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Contains dried beet pulp. Always soak fully before feeding — beet pulp swells and can cause choke if fed dry.
  • Do not leave a made-up mash standing in warm weather; it ferments.
