Foran Equine Refuel Liquid – 1 Litre
Refuel is Foran's post-exercise liquid: electrolytes and B vitamins given after work, racing or competition to replace what a horse loses in sweat. It goes into the feed or into the water after exercise rather than being fed as a daily routine supplement, and it is used as a short course rather than continuously.
Foran's own dosing is short and specific. For horses of roughly 360–590kg (800–1,300lb) the rate is 100ml, which is 3.3 fl oz, once daily, used for one to three days as appropriate, and repeated every three to four hours only if a veterinary surgeon recommends it. At 100ml a day the 1 litre bottle gives about ten daily doses.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Liquid, so it goes straight into feed or water with nothing to dissolve.
- Supplies sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium and calcium — the electrolytes lost in sweat.
- Carries B vitamins: B1, B6 and B12.
- Foran publish 57.75mg B1, 9.5mg B6 and 75mcg B12 per fluid ounce, which is about 30ml.
- Supplied with a 30ml pump or cap for measuring.
- Used as a short course after hard work rather than fed every day of the year.
Suitable For
- Horses after racing, competition or hard work.
- Horses that have sweated heavily in travel or hot weather.
- Short courses of one to three days rather than year-round daily feeding.
- Yards wanting a measured liquid rather than a powder to weigh out.
- Not a daily balancer and not a substitute for one — the everyday vitamin and mineral gaps are a job for a balancer such as Blue Chip Original.
Feeding
- Foran's rate for horses of 360–590kg (800–1,300lb) is 100ml, or 3.3 fl oz, once daily.
- Mix the measured amount into the normal feed, or into the water, after exercise, racing or competition.
- Use for one to three days as appropriate.
- Repeat every three to four hours only on the recommendation of a veterinary surgeon.
- At 100ml a day the 1 litre bottle gives about ten daily doses.
- Always give with free access to fresh, clean water.
Composition & Analysis
- Foran list the electrolytes supplied as sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium and calcium, with added B vitamins.
- Vitamin figures published by Foran: B1 57.75mg, B6 9.5mg and B12 75mcg per fluid ounce; B1 77mg, B6 26mg and B12 100mcg per two fluid ounces.
- Foran publish no full ingredient declaration and no analytical constituents table in their Refuel Liquid product information, so none is stated here.
- Foran's published information for Refuel Liquid carries no competition or prohibited-substance statement. Check with them before use under FEI or BHA rules.
- 1 litre bottle, supplied with a 30ml pump or cap.
Care & Caution
- Never give electrolytes to a horse without free access to fresh water. Electrolytes draw water into the gut, and a horse that cannot drink will dehydrate faster, not slower.
- Do not exceed Foran's stated rate, and repeat doses within a day only on veterinary advice.
- Not a treatment for a dehydrated or sick horse. A horse that will not drink after work needs a vet.
