Henry Bell Fat Balls – Tub of 50

The 50 tub is the middle pack size, and the tub is the reason to choose it. A resealable container keeps the balls firm, dry and out of reach of mice in a way a bag does not, which matters when a pack is going to sit in a shed or a porch for a couple of months rather than a fortnight.

At Henry Bell's own figure of 80g a ball, fifty balls is around 4kg of feeding — enough to keep two feeders going through the worst of a winter. Like every Henry Bell fat ball, they are supplied loose and free from nets.

Performance & Benefits
  • Fifty balls at Henry Bell's stated 80g each — roughly 4kg of high-energy feed.
  • Supplied in a tub, which keeps the balls dry and firm and shuts the mice out.
  • Free from nets, which Henry Bell call out as a cause of harm when birds feed.
  • Cereals, oils and fats, seeds and minerals, with 19.0% crude fat on Henry Bell's published analysis.
  • Taken by the full twelve-species list Henry Bell give for their fat balls.
  • Works in a hanging fat ball feeder, on a bird table or in a ground tray.
<>
Suitable For
  • Robins, tits of all five garden species, sparrows, finches, nuthatches and starlings.
  • A feeding station running two or more fat ball feeders.
  • Anyone storing feed in a shed, garage or porch where a bag would be got at.
  • Winter feeding, and spring when adults are working hardest.
  • More than one feeder in a small garden needs — the pack of 25 is the size for that.
<>
Feeding
  • Take balls from the tub as needed and load them into a fat ball feeder, bird table or tray.
  • The Henry Bell Heritage Fat Ball Feeder holds five; the Essential fat ball feeder holds three.
  • Reseal the tub after each refill.
  • Provide fresh water nearby for drinking and bathing.
  • Feed all year round, not only through the cold months.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: cereals, oils and fats, seeds, minerals.
  • Analytical constituents, as published by Henry Bell: crude protein 8.5%, crude fibres 2.5%, crude fat 19.0%, crude ash 8.5%.
  • One ball weighs 80g on Henry Bell's own feeder capacity figures. Henry Bell publish no net weight for the tub.
  • Henry Bell publish no vitamin declaration for their fat balls. Claims of added B vitamins and vitamin E appear on some listings, including the copy this page replaces, and have no manufacturer source.
  • Henry Bell product code H020002.

Care & Caution
  • Contains nuts and is packed in an environment where nuts are present. Not for human consumption.
  • Cut off and bin the netting from any netted fat balls bought elsewhere; birds catch their feet and beaks in it.
  • Do not put out balls that have gone mouldy or smell rancid.
  • Keep the tub lid on. Soft, warm fat balls smear plumage, and damp ones grow mould quickly.
