Henry Bell Peanuts – 4kg

Four kilos of whole peanuts, nothing else in the bag, tested for aflatoxin before it leaves Henry Bell. At 48.7% crude fat and 26.9% crude protein this is the densest single food on a feeding station, and the one that brings nuthatches and great spotted woodpeckers within sight of a kitchen window.

Peanuts have to go into a mesh feeder. That is not a preference: a whole nut carried back to a nest can choke a chick, and mesh is what forces an adult bird to flake pieces off instead of taking the nut away.

Performance & Benefits
  • Whole peanuts, a single ingredient, in a 4kg bag.
  • Crude fat 48.7% and crude protein 26.9% — Henry Bell's declared figures.
  • Henry Bell state their peanuts are tested for aflatoxins.
  • The food that reliably brings nuthatches and woodpeckers onto a feeder.
  • Feeds all year, not only through the winter.
  • Henry Bell also bag peanuts in 1kg, 2kg and 12.55kg.

Suitable For
  • Blue tits, great tits, long-tailed tits, greenfinches, goldfinches, chaffinches, nuthatches, starlings and great spotted woodpeckers.
  • Mesh peanut feeders — the Henry Bell Heritage Peanut Feeder or the Henry Bell Select Peanut Feeder.
  • Gardens after the widest possible range of clinging birds.
  • Year-round feeding, including the breeding season, provided the feeder is mesh.
  • Not for a bird table, an open dish or a ground tray. If you feed on the ground, use Henry Bell No Mess Mix instead.
<>
Feeding
  • Fill a mesh peanut feeder. Do not offer whole peanuts loose.
  • Keep to a regular routine once you start, because birds will come to depend on the supply.
  • Empty and wash the feeder with a bird-safe hygiene spray rather than topping up over old nuts.
  • Throw away any peanuts that have gone damp, soft or mouldy.
  • Keep fresh water available for drinking and bathing.

Care & Caution
  • Whole peanuts must be fed from a mesh feeder. Loose nuts can choke a chick when an adult carries one back to the nest.
  • The risk is highest from spring to late summer. Keep peanuts behind mesh right through the breeding season.
  • Peanuts not sold for bird feeding may carry aflatoxin, which is fatal to birds. Only feed nuts tested and sold for the purpose.
  • Throw the bag away if it has gone mouldy rather than picking through it.
