Stud Mix is the coarse-mix counterpart to Hilight's Stud Cubes, in a 20kg sack. Broodmares are notoriously variable feeders — some go off their bucket in late pregnancy and eat hungrily through lactation — and a mix is usually the easier format to keep a mare interested in across those swings.

Hilight is a merchant brand sold through farm and country stores, with no product website of its own. We have not reproduced the oil, protein and vitamin figures that circulate on merchant listings, because there is no manufacturer source to check them against. Feeding

• Introduce over 7 to 14 days, overlapping with the previous feed.
• Feed to bodyweight, stage of pregnancy or lactation and condition score.
• For youngstock, feed to a planned growth rate rather than to appetite.
• Divide the daily ration between two or more feeds.
