Hy Equestrian Plain Noseband – Brown, Full

A plain flat leather noseband in brown, Full size, sold on its own. It fits any bridle with a removable noseband, which makes it the straightforward answer when a noseband has broken, stretched or simply does not suit the horse's head.

Hy's own use for it is the show ring: a plain flat noseband is the correct, understated look for a native breed, where a raised or padded noseband reads as too much. It is equally the sensible fix if you have inherited a bridle with a raised noseband and want to quieten it down.

<>
Performance & Benefits
  • Plain, flat leather noseband — no padding, no raised edge, no drop.
  • Fits any bridle that has a removable noseband.
  • A direct replacement for a raised noseband, without buying a whole bridle.
  • Hy recommend it for showing native breeds, where a plain noseband is the correct turnout.
  • Brown leather, Full size.
  • Leather, so it will darken and soften with oiling and use.
<>
Suitable For
  • Showing native and traditional breeds.
  • Replacing a broken, stretched or over-fussy noseband on an existing bridle.
  • Anyone building a bridle up from separate parts.
  • Horses taking a Full size bridle. Hy also make this noseband in Pony and Cob, and in black.
  • Not a flash or drop noseband, and not a substitute for one — Hy's Padded Drop Noseband and Flash Noseband are separate products and do a different job.
<>
How to Use
  • Remove the old noseband from the headpiece and thread this one through in its place.
  • Set it roughly two fingers' width below the projecting cheekbone, clear of the bit rings.
  • Do it up so you can fit two fingers flat between the noseband and the jaw.
  • Oil new leather before first use, and clean it regularly with a leather care product, as Hy advise.
  • Do not soak it, wash it in a machine or dry it near a heat source.
<>
Specification
  • Plain flat noseband, Full size, brown.
  • Leather; Hy give no hide type, thickness, buckle finish or strap width, so none is stated here.
  • Hy list this noseband in Pony, Cob and Full, in black and brown.
  • Earlier copy on this page described a padded drop noseband with stainless steel fittings. That describes Hy's Padded Drop Noseband, a different product, and it has been removed.
  • Hy's own recommended retail price is £11.99.

Care & Caution
  • Leather noseband. Do not soak it or leave it wet — waterlogged leather dries hard, cracks and then fails under load.
  • Fit is a welfare matter. A noseband must not be tightened beyond two fingers flat against the jaw, and many showing and dressage bodies now measure this at competition.
  • Check the stitching and the buckle holes before every use, and retire the strap at the first sign of cracking at a fold.
