Runner peanuts are the standard wild bird peanut — raw, unblanched kernels sold whole for use in a mesh peanut feeder. At 25kg this is a trade-sized sack, aimed at people feeding several peanut feeders through winter rather than topping one up now and then.

Peanuts are worth being precise about. They must be fed from a mesh feeder rather than loose, and no supplier of this sack publishes an aflatoxin testing statement we can point you to, so the storage advice below matters more than it would for a seed mix.

Feeding

• Feed from a wire mesh peanut feeder only, so birds take small pieces rather than whole nuts.
• Do not scatter whole peanuts on a table or on the ground, particularly between spring and late summer.
• Keep the sack sealed, dry and off a concrete floor, and use a dry scoop.
• Empty and clean peanut feeders regularly; do not top up on top of old nuts.
• Provide fresh water nearby.

• Damp or mouldy peanuts can carry aflatoxins, which are harmful to birds. Discard any nuts that smell musty or show mould, and do not feed the bottom of a sack that has got wet.
