Julius-K9 IDC Powerharness – Purple, Size 3

Size 3 takes a chest of 82–115cm on a dog of about 40–70kg. That is rottweilers, malamutes, larger shepherds, mastiff crosses — dogs strong enough that the difference between a harness that spreads load and one that does not is something you feel through your own shoulder.

Purple is one of the easier colours to keep track of at distance in scrub or long grass, which is a small thing until you are looking for a dark dog at dusk. Otherwise this is the same harness as the rest of the range, in the second-largest size Julius-K9 make.

• Not the size for a 28–40kg dog, which will swim in it — that is Size 2. Chests over 115cm need Size 4.

How to Use

• Measure right round the chest four fingers behind the front legs; the chest measurement decides the size, not the dog's weight.
• Open the chest strap, lay the saddle over the back, bring the strap under the chest and close it.
• Adjust so a flat hand passes under the strap and the saddle stays square under a hard pull.
• Fold the handle down and secure it when you are not holding the dog by it.
• Swap the side patches for whichever labels you want; they are held on hook-and-loop.

• Julius-K9 state metal components are being phased out in favour of a strong plastic, so the lead ring may be either depending on production date.

Care & Caution

• The handle is a control point, not a lifting handle. Do not take the weight of a 70kg dog on it.
• Julius-K9 publish no crash-test result for the IDC Powerharness, so do not use it as a car restraint. Use a restraint sold and tested for that purpose.
• Inspect the chest strap, the saddle stitching and the lead ring regularly on a dog this size, and retire the harness if any of them has given.
• Take it off indoors and in a crate; the handle and patch edges catch on wire and bedding.
