KM Elite Padded Headcollar – Black, Cob

Cob is KM Elite's Medium fitting and the one most yards get through fastest, because it covers everything from a chunky pony to a lightweight horse. The construction is the same throughout the range — double- and triple-weave lined nylon webbing, padded headpiece, padded nosepiece and brass-colour hardware.

A cob's head is usually broader in the jaw than a horse's without being any longer, so a headcollar that fits the nose often gapes at the throat. The padded noseband here is wide enough to sit flat on a broad nose instead of sitting on its edge, which is where a thin strap starts to rub.

Performance & Benefits
  • Double- and triple-weave lined nylon webbing, noticeably heavier than the single-layer nylon used on most yard headcollars.
  • Padded nosepiece wide enough to lie flat on a broad cob nose.
  • Padded headpiece behind the ears, the second place a working headcollar rubs.
  • Brass-colour clips and hardware, including the throat clip.
  • Medium (Cob) sits in the middle of a seven-size ladder, with Small and Large either side.
  • Hand washable in warm water and air dried.
<>
Suitable For
  • Cobs, chunky ponies and lightweight horses.
  • Daily catching, leading, tying up and travelling.
  • Horses with broad jaws that gape at the throat in a horse-cut headcollar.
  • Pairing with a matching KM Elite lead rope.
  • Not the right fitting for a Shetland or a foal — XXXS (Shetland) and XXS (Colt) cover those.
<>
How to Use
  • Buckle on the near side, with the noseband sitting about two fingers below the cheekbone.
  • Adjust so two flat fingers fit between the noseband and the nose — any tighter and the padding cannot spread the pressure.
  • Clip the lead rope to the ring under the jaw, not to a side ring.
  • Hand wash in warm water and air dry naturally. KM Elite say not to tumble dry.

Care & Caution
  • This is a standard nylon headcollar, not a breakaway one. The webbing and fittings will not part under load, so do not leave it on a horse turned out unsupervised — a fixed headcollar catches on fences, gateposts and hind shoes.
  • Tie to a loop of breakable baler twine with a quick-release knot, never directly to a ring, gate or post.
  • Check the stitching, buckle tongues and clip springs before each use and retire the headcollar once the webbing frays.
