KM Elite Padded Headcollar – Navy, Large (Full)

Navy is the shade most yards end up standardising on, and Large is KM Elite's Full fitting — the size that suits an ordinary 15.2hh to 16.2hh head. What separates it from the plain nylon headcollar hanging on the next hook is the lining: the crownpiece and noseband are padded, so the webbing does not sit hard against the poll and nose all day.

The body is double and triple weave lined nylon, finished with brass-colour clips and a throat lash clip. KM Elite build the same headcollar in seven fittings, so if this one rides low on the nose there is a Medium (Cob) underneath it and an XL (XFull) above.

Performance & Benefits
  • Large (Full) is KM Elite's standard horse fitting, sitting between Medium (Cob) and XL (XFull).
  • Double and triple weave lined nylon webbing, which is what gives the headcollar its stiffness and its life on a busy yard.
  • Soft padded headpiece and nosepiece, placed where a plain nylon headcollar normally marks a horse.
  • Brass-colour clips and fittings throughout, including a throat lash clip.
  • The throat lash clip lets you fasten the headcollar round the neck first, which helps with a horse that lifts its head away from you.
  • Made in the same colour across KM Elite's matching lead ropes, so a set can be kept together per horse.

Suitable For
  • Everyday handling — catching, leading, tying up, grooming and travelling.
  • Horses of about 15.2hh to 16.2hh with a head of normal proportion.
  • Yards that want one plain colour across every horse rather than a mixture.
  • Yards that colour-code headcollars so the right one goes on the right horse.
  • Too big for a cob or a pony — the Medium (Cob) and Small (Large Pony) fittings in the same range are the ones for those.
<>
How to Use
  • Fit the noseband about two fingers below the cheekbone, well clear of the soft part of the nose.
  • You should be able to slide a flat hand under the noseband and two fingers under the cheekpiece.
  • Adjust at the headpiece buckle, and use the throat lash clip rather than threading the whole headcollar over the ears.
  • Hand wash in warm water and air dry naturally. Do not tumble dry.
  • Rinse mud and sweat off before it dries into the weave, which is what stiffens nylon webbing over time.

Specification
  • Double and triple weave lined nylon, with a padded headpiece and nosepiece.
  • Brass-colour clips and fittings, including a throat lash clip.
  • Colour Navy, size Large (Full). KM Elite's size run is XXXS (Shetland), XXS (Colt), XS (Small Pony), Small (Large Pony), Medium (Cob), Large (Full) and XL (XFull).
  • KM Elite product code 1002024.
  • KM Elite publish no neck, nose or headpiece measurements for these fittings, so none are stated here.
  • KM Elite describe the clips and fittings as brass-colour; older retail copy calls them solid brass, and the manufacturer's wording is the one used here.

Care & Caution
  • This is not a breakaway headcollar. The webbing and fittings are made not to give, so do not leave it on a horse turned out, loose in a stable or unattended in a trailer.
  • Tie to a loop of baler twine rather than straight to a fixed ring, so something breaks before the horse does.
  • Recheck the fit as the horse changes shape through the year — a headcollar left a hole too tight is what causes rubs on the nose and poll.
