KM Elite Padded Headcollar – Hot Orange, Small (Large Pony)

This is KM Elite's Small fitting, which in their size run means Large Pony rather than small pony — the practical size for something between 13hh and 14.2hh. In hot orange it is also the headcollar least likely to be left behind in a lorry park or lost in a hedge.

Ponies tend to be handled by more people than horses are, which is an argument for the throat lash clip: it fastens round the neck first, so a child does not have to post the whole headcollar over a pony's ears. Padded headpiece and nosepiece throughout.

Performance & Benefits
  • Easy to see and easy to find, which matters on a pony that lives out.
  • Double and triple weave lined nylon webbing, which is what gives the headcollar its stiffness and its life on a busy yard.
  • Soft padded headpiece and nosepiece, placed where a plain nylon headcollar normally marks a horse.
  • Brass-colour clips and fittings throughout, including a throat lash clip.
  • The throat lash clip lets you fasten the headcollar round the neck first, which helps with a horse that lifts its head away from you.
  • Made in the same colour across KM Elite's matching lead ropes, so a set can be kept together per horse.

Suitable For
  • Everyday handling — catching, leading, tying up, grooming and travelling.
  • Small (Large Pony), roughly 13hh to 14.2hh.
  • Large ponies, Section Cs and Ds, and small natives.
  • Yards that colour-code headcollars so the right one goes on the right horse.
  • Not a small-pony size — XS (Small Pony) and XXS (Colt) are the fittings below it.
<>
How to Use
  • Fit the noseband about two fingers below the cheekbone, well clear of the soft part of the nose.
  • You should be able to slide a flat hand under the noseband and two fingers under the cheekpiece.
  • Adjust at the headpiece buckle, and use the throat lash clip rather than threading the whole headcollar over the ears.
  • Hand wash in warm water and air dry naturally. Do not tumble dry.
  • Rinse mud and sweat off before it dries into the weave, which is what stiffens nylon webbing over time.

Specification
  • Double and triple weave lined nylon, with a padded headpiece and nosepiece.
  • Brass-colour clips and fittings, including a throat lash clip.
  • Colour Hot Orange, size Small (Large Pony). KM Elite's size run is XXXS (Shetland), XXS (Colt), XS (Small Pony), Small (Large Pony), Medium (Cob), Large (Full) and XL (XFull).
  • KM Elite product code 1002050.
  • KM Elite's current published colour list names an Orange rather than a Hot Orange; the photograph is the better guide to the shade supplied.
  • KM Elite publish no neck, nose or headpiece measurements for these fittings, so none are stated here.
  • KM Elite describe the clips and fittings as brass-colour; older retail copy calls them solid brass, and the manufacturer's wording is the one used here.

Care & Caution
  • This is not a breakaway headcollar. The webbing and fittings are made not to give, so do not leave it on a horse turned out, loose in a stable or unattended in a trailer.
  • Tie to a loop of baler twine rather than straight to a fixed ring, so something breaks before the horse does.
  • Recheck the fit as the horse changes shape through the year — a headcollar left a hole too tight is what causes rubs on the nose and poll.
