KM Elite Padded Headcollar – Navy Blue, Pony (XS)

XS is KM Elite's Small Pony fitting, the size for a first pony or a small native rather than the Small, which is their Large Pony size. Getting those two the right way round is the single most common ordering mistake across this range.

Navy is the sensible choice for a pony that is shown as well as ridden at home, and the padded crownpiece and noseband are worth having on an animal small children handle — a pony that pulls back against a bare nylon band will mark across the nose.

Performance & Benefits
  • The smaller of KM Elite's two pony fittings, below their Small.
  • Double and triple weave lined nylon webbing, which is what gives the headcollar its stiffness and its life on a busy yard.
  • Soft padded headpiece and nosepiece, placed where a plain nylon headcollar normally marks a horse.
  • Brass-colour clips and fittings throughout, including a throat lash clip.
  • The throat lash clip lets you fasten the headcollar round the neck first, which helps with a horse that lifts its head away from you.
  • Made in the same colour across KM Elite's matching lead ropes, so a set can be kept together per horse.

Suitable For
  • Everyday handling — catching, leading, tying up, grooming and travelling.
  • XS (Small Pony), above XXS (Colt) and below Small (Large Pony).
  • First ponies, small natives and Section As and Bs.
  • Yards that colour-code headcollars so the right one goes on the right horse.
  • Too small for a 14hh pony — the Small (Large Pony) fitting is the one for those.
<>
How to Use
  • Fit the noseband about two fingers below the cheekbone, well clear of the soft part of the nose.
  • You should be able to slide a flat hand under the noseband and two fingers under the cheekpiece.
  • Adjust at the headpiece buckle, and use the throat lash clip rather than threading the whole headcollar over the ears.
  • Hand wash in warm water and air dry naturally. Do not tumble dry.
  • Rinse mud and sweat off before it dries into the weave, which is what stiffens nylon webbing over time.

Specification
  • Double and triple weave lined nylon, with a padded headpiece and nosepiece.
  • Brass-colour clips and fittings, including a throat lash clip.
  • Colour Navy Blue, size Pony (XS). KM Elite's size run is XXXS (Shetland), XXS (Colt), XS (Small Pony), Small (Large Pony), Medium (Cob), Large (Full) and XL (XFull).
  • KM Elite product code 1002030.
  • KM Elite publish no neck, nose or headpiece measurements for these fittings, so none are stated here.
  • KM Elite describe the clips and fittings as brass-colour; older retail copy calls them solid brass, and the manufacturer's wording is the one used here.

Care & Caution
  • This is not a breakaway headcollar. The webbing and fittings are made not to give, so do not leave it on a horse turned out, loose in a stable or unattended in a trailer.
  • Tie to a loop of baler twine rather than straight to a fixed ring, so something breaks before the horse does.
  • Recheck the fit as the horse changes shape through the year — a headcollar left a hole too tight is what causes rubs on the nose and poll.
