KM Elite Orchard Treats – 1.5kg
Orchard Treats are 14mm nuggets built around dehydrated apple with an added apple and pear flavour, sold in a 1.5kg resealable pouch. The size is the point — a 14mm nugget goes in a pocket by the handful and can be given quickly during groundwork without the horse having to stop and chew through something the size of a biscuit.
KM Elite publish a full composition and analysis for them, which not every treat manufacturer does. They are a high-fibre, relatively low-energy treat at 11MJ/kg, but they are not a sugar-free one: molasses is in the composition and the declared sugar is 7% with starch at 14%.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 14mm nuggets, small enough to pocket and to give one-handed during groundwork.
- Built on dehydrated apple with an added apple and pear flavour to improve acceptance.
- Crude fibre 14.8% and energy 11MJ/kg, so a handful does not represent much hard feed.
- Crude protein 12.4% and crude oil 4.3%.
- 1.5kg resealable pouch, which keeps the nuggets from going soft once opened.
- Composition and full analytical constituents are declared by KM Elite rather than left vague.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies, as an occasional reward rather than part of the ration.
- Training, groundwork and loading practice where timing matters.
- Catching a horse that has decided it would rather stay out.
- Hiding a small powdered supplement, or persuading a fussy horse to take a wormer.
- Not the right treat for a laminitic, EMS or PPID pony — at 7% sugar and 14% starch with molasses in the composition, those need a specifically low sugar and starch treat instead.
Feeding
- Feed as a treat, training aid or supplement to the diet. KM Elite state plainly that they should not be fed as the main feed.
- KM Elite publish no gram or nugget rate, saying the amount varies by horse, so none is stated here.
- Count what you give into the day's ration if you are feeding a pony on a controlled diet.
- Keep fresh drinking water available at all times.
- Reseal the pouch after each use and keep it somewhere cool and dry.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: wheatfeed, grass nuts, oatfeed, wheat, molasses, lignosulphate binder, micronized linseed meal, flavour, dried apple.
- Analytical constituents: crude protein 12.4%, crude fibre 14.8%, crude oil 4.3%, sugar 7%, starch 14%, sodium 0.1%, calcium 0.45%, phosphorus 0.5%.
- Energy 11MJ/kg.
- Additive: preservative calcium propionate E282. Permitted binder components — calcium sulphate 75%, starch 15%, plant extracts 10%.
- 1.5kg resealable pouch. KM Elite product code 1002132.
Care & Caution
- KM Elite state that these must not be fed to sheep.
- Sugar 7% and starch 14%, with molasses in the composition — keep them away from any horse or pony managed for laminitis, insulin dysregulation or PPID.
- Greedy feeders bolt whole nuggets. Offer them from a flat palm rather than dropping a handful in a bucket.
- Store the pouch sealed and out of reach; a loose horse that finds an open bag will eat the lot.
