KONG Classic – Medium, Red
Medium is the size most people should be buying and the one that goes out of stock first. KONG's published band for it is 5–35 lb, about 2–16kg, which covers spaniels, border collies, beagles, terriers and the bulk of British crossbreeds.
The toy itself needs no introduction: hollow natural red rubber, a bounce that will not run straight, and a cavity that turns dinner into forty minutes of work. Red is KONG's average adult chewer grade, sitting between the soft pink and blue Puppy rubber and the black Extreme. This Medium carries barcode 035585111216.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Natural KONG Classic red rubber, the formula KONG rate for average adult chewers.
- Holds a full meal of soaked kibble, which is the easiest way to slow a fast eater down.
- Erratic bounce off the rounded base gives a proper chase from a short throw.
- Stuff and freeze for a longer-lasting challenge, as KONG recommend.
- Takes KONG Easy Treat, KONG Snacks and Ziggies, all of which we stock.
Suitable For
- Dogs of roughly 5–35 lb, about 2–16kg, on KONG's own size guidance.
- Slowing down a dog that inhales its food.
- Crate training, vet rest and settling a dog that struggles to switch off.
- Not the grade for a dog that shreds rubber — the black KONG Extreme in Medium is the same shape in KONG's toughest formula.
How to Use
- Start with dry kibble falling out freely, then move to wet food and freezing as the dog gets better at it.
- Smear the inside with something sticky before adding kibble, so it does not all fall out at once.
- Serve one or two a day as part of the daily ration, not on top of it.
- Wash in hot soapy water — KONG advise a ten minute soak — or dishwasher top rack with the heat cycle off.
Specification
- Size Medium, red. Barcode 035585111216.
- Natural rubber in KONG's Classic red formula. Made in the USA from globally sourced materials.
- One of six sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL.
- KONG publish no cavity volume, height or weight for the Classic, so none are given here.
Care & Caution
- Size by the dog's mouth, not its breed: KONG's rule is that the largest ring should be wider than the back of the dog's mouth, and to size up when in doubt.
- Frozen stuffing is fine; frozen bone or anything hard enough to crack a tooth is not.
- No safe dog toy is indestructible, as KONG say themselves. Replace a Classic that has splits or bite-sized pieces missing.
