KONG Puppy Classic – Large, Pink or Blue

The Puppy is the KONG Classic shape in a softer rubber formula, mixed specifically for teething gums. KONG make it in four sizes and this is the Large, which they size for dogs of 30 to 65 lb — roughly 14 to 29kg — so it is the one for a growing Labrador, Retriever or Shepherd rather than a small terrier puppy.

Rubber is the point of it. Unlike nylon, hard plastic, sticks or bones it does not splinter, and KONG's own line is that it is gentle on new teeth while still standing up to hours of chewing. The hollow centre takes Easy Treat Puppy, Ziggies, or dog-safe peanut butter, which turns a chew toy into a scavenging job.

How to Use

• Stuff the cavity with KONG Easy Treat, Ziggies or a smear of dog-safe peanut butter.
• Freeze it filled for a longer, cooler job on sore gums.
• Wash in hot soapy water or on the dishwasher top shelf, and dry before refilling.
• Throw it on grass rather than hard surfaces — the bounce is deliberately erratic.

Care & Caution

• Puppy rubber is soft by design. Move up to the red KONG Classic once the adult teeth are in, and to the black Extreme for a serious chewer.
• Check it over regularly and replace it once it is gouged or torn; pieces of rubber can be swallowed.
• Supervise stuffed feeding, especially with a frozen filling.
• Give a puppy the size KONG specify for its weight — an undersized Classic is a choking risk.
