KONG Traxx – Medium/Large
The Traxx is KONG's tyre: a thick rubber ring with a deep channel around the inside face that takes a smear of paste or a scatter of small treats. Thrown, it rolls a little way and then tips and skitters off at an angle, which keeps a dog chasing rather than trotting after a ball in a straight line.
KONG have retired the Traxx name — the tyre in their current catalogue is the Extreme Tires — and publish no diameter, height, weight or rubber grade for it. Barcode 035585250007 identifies this as the Medium/Large Traxx. The 11cm and 6cm diameters and 4cm height that appeared on this page before came from a retail listing rather than KONG, and have been taken off.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Tyre shape rolls, stops dead and tips, so the bounce stays unpredictable enough to hold interest.
- Hollow inner channel holds paste, soft treats or a wedge of kibble for a stuffed enrichment toy.
- One solid rubber ring with no seams, hard fittings or parts to come away.
- Easy for a dog to pick up off a flat floor, which a plain ball is not.
- Sits still when stuffed, so it works as a lick-and-chew toy as well as a fetch toy.
Suitable For
- Medium and large dogs that like to chase and carry.
- Stuffing and freezing for an enrichment session at home.
- Dogs that need occupying rather than exhausting.
- Outdoor fetch on grass, where the odd bounce is an advantage.
- Not sized for a small dog or a puppy — the Traxx Small is the one to buy, and for a determined chewer the KONG Extreme in Large, black, uses KONG's hardest rubber.
How to Use
- Fill the inner channel with paste or small treats, or press kibble in and freeze it to make the session last.
- Roll or throw it on grass; on hard floors it travels a long way.
- Wash in warm soapy water between fillings, then rinse and dry before refilling.
- Count whatever goes inside as part of the day's food ration.
- Take it away and look it over weekly for splits or missing chunks.
Specification
- KONG Traxx, Medium/Large. Barcode 035585250007.
- Natural rubber tyre with a hollow inner channel for stuffing.
- KONG no longer list the Traxx on kongcompany.com and publish no current diameter, height, weight or rubber grade, so none are stated here.
- The outer and inner diameters of 11cm and 6cm and the 4cm height previously shown on this page are not KONG figures and have been removed.
- KONG's current tyre toy is the Extreme Tires, made in Small and Medium/Large.
Care & Caution
- Check the rubber before each session and replace the toy once it splits or loses a piece.
- Size matters: a toy small enough to pass behind the back teeth is a choking risk. This is the Medium/Large.
- Stuff it only with food your dog already eats, and watch a first stuffed session through.
- Supervise a dog that chews at a stuffed toy rather than licking at it.
