Lincoln Salt Lick Holder – Purple

The same Lincoln lick holder in purple: a flexible plastic basket sized for a standard 2kg block. What it really does is stop waste. A lick left on the stable floor picks up shavings, gets trodden on, and dissolves into the bedding the first time a water bucket goes over.

Mounted on a wall the block stays dry and stays where it is put, and the horse takes what it wants rather than eating half of it off the floor. Purple is one of several colours in the range, which is useful on a yard where every stable has one and it helps to know whose is whose.

How to Use

• Choose a solid fixing point at roughly chest height for the horse that will use it.
• Fix the holder securely and check it does not shift under a firm push.
• Flex the sides and press the block home until it is held.
• Change the block once it is small enough to move about or drop out.
• Rinse and dry the holder between blocks.

Care & Caution

• Site it clear of rug straps and headcollars, and away from where a horse rolls or turns tightly.
• Inspect the plastic for cracks or sharp edges whenever you change the block, and replace it if you find any.
• Free access to salt should sit alongside a balanced ration, not replace part of it. Take nutritional advice if you are unsure.
• Youngstock will chew a plastic holder. Keep an eye on it, or put it where they cannot reach.
