600g of Nature's Grub's garlic, herb and vegetable scatter mix, in a pouch. Carrot, parsnip and beetroot for the vegetables, seaweed, garlic, oregano and mint for the aromatics, on a base of cooked and whole cereals with oyster shell blended through.

Garlic and herbs are a long-standing habit in poultry keeping, and this is the easy way to feed them — scattered on the ground in the afternoon as something for the flock to hunt for. The pouch suits a few hens, or a first try before buying a bucket.

Feeding

• Scatter straight from the pouch onto dry ground, best in the afternoon.
• A handful per bird is enough. Treats should stay a small share of the day's food.
• Birds eating whole cereals need insoluble flint grit available separately. The oyster shell in this mix is a calcium source for shell building, not a grinding grit — they are different jobs.
• Fold the pouch over and keep it dry between feeds.
